JIS Acquisition on June 5, 2013

Jergens Industrial Supply (JIS), Division of Jergens, Inc., is pleased to announce that it has acquired certain assets of Gray Industrial Supply, excluding the high pressure hydraulic equipment distribution and service center but including web based Spectrum Supply. Together, JIS, Gray Industrial Supply and Spectrum Supply offer over 100 years of combined experience. With this purchase, JIS continues to build its business as the largest and most technically advanced industrial distributor within 200 miles of Cleveland. Now, JIS is able to offer customers the value added service of band saw blade welding that many of the larger catalog houses do not provide.

History of Gray Industrial Supply

Kenneth Brown Sr. and Howard Baumann met on a troop ship during World War II. They went through India, Burma, and China together.  When the war ended they returned to Cleveland, Ohio and purchased Gray Tool, a small cutting tool company. The two-man team started by taking orders for tools during the day, returning to their shop to manufacture the cutting tools in the evenings. In 1946, as the post war economy grew, the expanding business was incorporated as Gray Industrial Supply.

They began to focus their efforts on selling welded bandsaw blades and over time became a dominant force in the Cleveland marketplace. Their time proven philosophy was to provide the customer with the best available quality and service.

In the 1980’s a new division, Gray Food Equipment, was created to serve the food industry in the United States and abroad. Ohio Hydraulic Jack Service, a high pressure hydraulic equipment Distributor and Service Center, was acquired in 1993 in order to expand their existing hydraulic market share. In 1996 Spectrum Supply was acquired which today serves as the Web based marketing arm for Gray Industrial Supply.
